What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob
Perhaps you've lost the Nissan key fob or it stopped working. Before you contact the dealership or get scared, retrace your steps to check where you had it last.
It's not difficult to change the battery in the key fob of your Nissan. It may seem daunting initially but you'll get grasp of it in no time.
Smart Keys
The key fob that was included with the Nissan is an essential element of its sophisticated keyless entry system. It connects to the vehicle's electronics to unlock doors and begin the engine. It also features an elegant design that makes it easy to carry in your pocket. Key fobs also offer convenience features such as the lockout protection feature that ensures you won't wander out of the vehicle with keys inside.
Smart keys are wireless unlike previous models that required you to insert the key into an ignition slot in order to access your vehicle's internal systems. Nissan detects when you are near your vehicle and activates the Intelligent Key's internal functions. This can include opening or locking the doors, raising and lowering the tailgate, or even starting the engine.
Some smart key models include a valet key hidden in the metal. This key can be pulled out from an opening on the back of the Smart Key fob to secure the trunk or glove box prior to handing it over to the valet. The Smart Key fob has a charging pocket that can be used to charge the battery when it is not in use.

Intelligent Key Fob
Nissan Intelligent Key Fobs permit you to unlock your car's doors and turn on the engine at pressing a button. You can also use presets that meet your needs. For example, you can alter the seat and mirrors to maximize comfort. You can control the music on your smartphone so you don't have to leave your car.
Intelligent Key Fobs come with an antenna that transmits signals to your vehicle every time you push a button or come close to it. When the vehicle receives this signal it is activated opening and locking doors, starting the engine, or opening the trunk. To test the fob out you must get away from your car and click on the buttons. If the lights flash or the horn sound then you've successfully programmed your Intelligent Key Fob.
Batteries are required to operate Intelligent Key Fobs. Our Parts Department will help you quickly and easily replace it if the battery runs out. To do this, take out the hidden key and open the battery compartment of your key fob. Remove the battery that was in it, then insert a new one in its place. Make sure the positive side of the new one is facing the same direction as the original one did. Finally close the compartment for the battery and return the hidden key to its hidden location inside the case.
Remote Start
Nissan remote start is a feature that allows drivers to heat up or cool their car from outside the vehicle, if they're within the operating range. The ignition of the car can be activated by pressing the button on the key fob or smartphone application. The remote start system may also engage climate control that allows the driver to set their preferred temperature. Certain systems have two-way communication which allows the driver see what's happening inside their vehicle.
The battery's power is low, which is the most frequent reason why your remote is not working. The key fob is powered by the battery, which is small and replaceable that lasts approximately two years before it has to be replaced. The battery can be changed quickly, but you'll need to be aware of where the hidden key is on your Intelligent Key Fob and how to open the battery compartment.
To do so, flip your fob over and press the hidden key release latch located on the back of the key pad. Once the keypad is open take out the old batteries and replace them with new ones. Make sure that your new battery is the same size and shape of the old one. Make sure to replace the key hidden in the case and reassemble the key fob correctly before closing the case. Lockout Protection
Lockout protection prevents nuisance lockouts caused by the impedance relay failing. A special module inside the power control monitors the activity of the impedance relay, and turns off the output. This feature is only available for vehicles that have the Smart Key system or through the vehicle personalization menu.
Many serious accidents have occurred because a machine was started when it should have been completely turned off to prevent maintenance or repair. These incidents are typically the result of energy that was not released properly. Lock-out tag-out (LOTO) systems can prevent these incidents by ensuring that machines are completely off until the person who is authorized releases them.
The LOTO system consists of a variety of locks, tags and other devices that are used to isolate, secure or shut off a machine from electricity. All "affected", "authorized" and "qualified" personnel should be instructed on the use of lockout/tagout devices. These devices include, but aren't restricted to locks, chains and padlocks. Each device is clearly identified and labeled with the date and time of the application and the name of the person who is authorized to use it, and the reason for the lockout or tag-out (repair or maintenance, for example). It must be stated clearly that the devices cannot be removed until the LOTO procedure is complete.
